Newsletter: Welcome to Advent!
Dear friends,
Welcome to the Season of Advent!
Advent is the season in the church year when we prepare for Christ to come in all his many forms: certainly, as a child in the physical nativity at Bethlehem, but also in the eschatological sense of the Second Coming of Christ when Jesus comes for the final time to transform the world, and also in the sense that Jesus is born again in the hearts of all those who believe year after year.
You are invited to join me and Lorie in an Advent mini-retreat from 2-4pm on Saturday December 3. Click on this button for a little bit more information, and be sure to register in the book in the narthex at the church.
We are also continuing to invite you to reflect on your stewardship of your own resources and those of the parish. Please consider how much of your time, your gifts, and your money you are giving to the church, and read through our Stewardship resources to discover the ministries at St Andrew’s that particularly need your support.
Finally, I would remind you of our outreach for Advent. We are trying to give lots and lots of food and other things to the Sources Langley Food Bank. This Sunday, the First of Advent, we are asking you to bring cans, cans, and more cans of all kinds of food (except tuna). Next Sunday, the Second of Advent, our focus is on drinks: tetra packs, juices, non-dairy milk, coffee, tea, sugar, and non-dairy creamers. We’ve also had a special request from Langley Youth Unlimited to sponsor a couple of Christmas hampers for youth in need. I’m asking St Dunstan’s & St Andrew’s to each donate $200 towards this.
All the best of the season to you. Please do be in touch to let me know how you are doing and whether you or someone you know would appreciate a visit from the clergy!
Love from,
Andrew
the Rev Andrew Halladay, Vicar
